Thanks to Ed Jablonowski from Bootdisk.com for creating these disks. Install Windows XP in the boot image 1. Set up a new Virtual Machine 3. As disk use the c.img 4. Configure the cdrom 5. - This tutorial will walk the reader through setting up Minix 2.0.4 on Windows XP via Bochs 2.1.1. These are the latest versions of Minix, Bochs and Windows XP as of May of 2004. In this era of Linux and Windows domination of the OS scene, it is important to remember that there are alternatives.
- Put Bochs on Android. Prepare a Windows XP installation CD image file form. Iso then setting the Virtual Hard Disk Virtual Box or Qemu on your PC. With the following provisions: a. Open Qemu or Virtual Box b. Select 'New Virtual Machine' c. Create a blank virtual hard drive named 'c.img' d. Configure the CD-ROM to the Windows XP iso image directly to a CD or no CD that is. Give to Virtual RAM 256 MB f.
I've just two tools for this kind of thing. The first creates a FAT12
formatted floppy image with an option of putting boot sector from another
file to it (not the whole boot sector, just the code, preserving the
FAT-related details). The second uses my FAT module to 'mount' a floppy/hdd
image formatted as FAT12/16/32 and write files to it using functions with an
API very similar to the standard C/Unix file/directory functions. So, having
the boot sector code in one file, the kernel files, and these two tools
alows me to create an image that can be fed into Bochs/Virtual
PC/Server/VMWare/whatever, written to the floppy as-is or used to make a
bootable CD (in floppy-emulation mode). I don't actually need to use the
floppy drive but I used to use it -- once the boot sector was written, I
could just copy over the (new) kernel files to the floppy and then boot off
it the PC or VM or take an image from it. But now that's about as simple as
it can be -- I can produce and consume the image w/o using any hardware or
tools that I don't have control of. Maybe you could also create images from
files in some simple way.

Run MINIX 3 on Windows XP Bochs[edit]
The recipe below was successfully tried with Minix versions 3.1.1, 3.1.2, 3.1.2a. The Bochs ver. 2.2.6 was running under (or over?) Windows XP.It also may work on other operating system that support Bochs Environment. Adobe photoshop cs5 serial number full version.
- Download a Minix 3 bootable CD ISO image[1]. You'll download an archive, unpack it - you'll get the file with name like IDE-3.1.1.iso.
- Download Bochs - in my case,I have used Bochs 2.2.6 released for Windows XP but should work higher verion[2].
- Install WinPCap, downloadable from [3].
- Install Bochs - when asked for options, add DLX Linux.
- In the directory where the default installed Bochs will be in (C:Program FilesBochs-2.2.6) , you'll find dlxlinux directory.
- You need to make a copy of dlxlinux in the same parent directory with different name minix3. This new directory will be your Minix OS versions.
- Go to the new minix3 directory and edit bochsrc.bxrc file.
- Run Boch's NIC Lister. For a few ordinary Windows XP machines with one network card NIC Lister mentions three interfaces, and some of them usually works.
- Put the IDE-3.1.1.iso file with Minix 3 bootable CD image into minix3 directory.
- Edit the run.bat file in the minix3 directory - replace dlxlinux with minix3 on the first line in the path.
- Run run.bat - you'll get Minix 3 booting in the virtual Bochs PC.
Install Minix onto a Virtual Hard Drive[edit]

The step below work on any Bochs Environment and doesn't depend on the operating system
- Create the file for that drive first. Launch the Disk Image Creation Tool, which is included into Bochs distribution. The interface is very simple - the program just asks a few questions and does the job, but just in case, you'll wand a hard drive (hd) disk image, of flat (flat) type, sized, for example, 2048 megabytes (2048) - it will actually be 8192 bytes less than that - named hd2gig.img.

- You'll need to edit bochsrc.bxrc again. The line in hard disk section, related to disk - if you took the bochsrc.bxrc from dlxlinux, it will contain
should contain the line, which Disk Image Creation Tool put into clipboard, namely,
- Relaunch Minix booting from cdrom, login as root, run 'setup', which will install Minix on the virtual hard drive. The network will get installed as well.
- After installation is complete, run 'shutdown', in boot monitor run 'off' so Bochs will turn down, and change 'boot: cdrom' to 'boot: disk', so you'll boot next time from virtual disk instead of cdrom.
